On the Island Again

Once we arrived home from New Brunswick and settled in it was on to Vancouver Island caching again. Did a day of caching with Cougar Kid on the off road motorcycles up and around Mount Washington for a day, the weather was much better and the views were great this time up. Did a day trip up to the Carmanah Valley to do and old rail bed with 4 old train trestles from the very early 1900's. They removed the steel from the trestles so you have to hike up and down the valleys of sort. Most of them are in place so it is great for pictures but not walking on. I would recommend this area for anyone to see it's greatness and history as well. JuRuu and LifeAboveAll were with me on this trip.
Had my OAP-65 event on the 23 of August and about 80 cachers and friends attended in Ladysmith at Aggie Hall/Fields. We all had fun and a lot of good gag gifts. A great way to spend ones milestone birthday.
Our Sunday Caching Group has been doing some great hikes and day trips. On the 31st of August, we headed for Saturna Island. This was a long day trip, up at 0200 hours, picked up by JuRuu at 0300 hours, then we picked up Classictwo at 0315 hours and then off we went to pick up Sheesh695 about 0300 hours. I was already tired but we pushed on to the ferry terminal at Schwartz Ferry and arrived there at 0500 hours. Once on the ferry, we planned our course of action and away we went, we hiked for two hours across the ridge, then came back to the terminal area form a few caches and picked up Diraduck at 1005 hours, she sleeps in. We spent the day caching the whole Island, hiking, driving finding every cache on the Island, 67 in total. It was a grand day and I think the views were some of the most spectacular I have ever seen, this is a place cachers and non cachers should go for a day trip. We caught the 2135 hours ferry home and arrived back home at 0130 on Monday, a long great day.
Trying to reach 16,000 before December 31, 2014, but may be a little hard as the weather changes.
May be going to Mount Arrowsmith this coming Sunday and will post if we do go there..

The New Brunswick End!

As I sit in the Montreal Airport, I thought I would end this chapter of my visit to NB. I managed to get about 150 caches, mostly in the morning early, but Princess! and I did go to Quebec for a day, Amqui, a small town about 90 KM's away from Campbellton New Brunswick. It was a beautiful drive along a river all the way. managed to get a few caches and a letterbox for my 7 days of August. My sister, Indynb and I went to Bathurst for a day of caching. We started out on HWY 11 doing a power trail, NOT, this is considered a HWY power trail, all caches were about 30 to 60 meters through wet road side swamp and thick bush. We did this for about 4 hours and then back to Bathurst for some urban caching. A lot of these were a little tough but better than the power trail. Most cachers do not give hints or put clues on the cache page.
But over all it was a good time and look forward to my next trip here.
On the way to the airport this morning we had a few hours to kill so we grabbed 9 caches in the Bathurst area and near the airport.

Day Five in New Brunswick

Things are moving along great with the caching in the early morning. Doing a lot of headlamp caching until the sun comes up. We had our event last night and most of the people that showed up were french which was different from our events on the west coast. But most of them speak English as well. Half of them were from the Quebec side of the river. Lots of fun as usual. As I have five of the August souvenirs and no letterbox for 200 KM's around, I thought I would have to wait to get back to BC to finish but one of the cachers from Amqui, Quebec, about 80 KM's away has has a letter box there so Princess and I are heading there about 0900 hours this morning for the cache and a little site seeing as well. As I did a PQ it is apparent that all the caches are in french but I am able to translate most of what I need. Although I was brought up here, it is an area I have not visited yet, so should be fun. I never did check that area for a letter box, so the event paid off. I will do a new log later to let you know how it went..Happy caching .

Caching In New Brunswick

Arrived after a long flight and on the way home, I just had to grab one not to far from the Airport. I have been caching early in the morning in Campbellton and area, mostly my sister's (Indynb), caches. I usually leave about 0500 hours and cache in the dark for a while with a head lamp until the light breaks. It sure is different here, mostly no clues but they are almost all hanging, winter friendly they call it. If you ask any other cacher, even my sister for a clue, you would think you asked then for a $1000.00.
Did some caching in Quebec this morning and the same goes for their caches except a lot of them are in french but some of them are french as well as English. The fir trees rip your hands and arms apart and I have a few scrapes on my head as well.
All together having fun visiting with the parents and the early caching is a blast. On Thursday, Indynb and I are going down towards Bathurst for a day of caching but for some reason, I think it will not be as long as I hope it is, but it will be good to cache with my little sister.
I have managed to find about 75 caches so far and have three souvenirs for the challenge this month  and my event will give me 4 plus a virtual will give me 5 tomorrow.

New Brunswick or Bust

Hello Fellow cachers,

What a great summer we are having for hitting the trails. have been doing a lot of hiking, mountain biking and off road motorcycle. It seems like not so much city caching anymore, could that be because I have done most of them?
Well, tomorrow Princess! and I are heading to New Brunswick to visit the parents and do a little caching as well. We are hosting an event on August 5th in Campbellton NB on the pier, a place I used to watch my grandfather work as a longshoreman and played there as well. Looking forward to meeting the local cachers and a number of Quebec cachers as it is only a KM to the Quebec side.
My sister, Indynb, who I got into caching two years ago will be there as well. We hope to get a few days of caching in. I suppose I will head out every morning to cache about 0430 and head back about 0800 to wake up Princess! Most of the caches will have the same hint, "Winter Friendly" which means 6 feet or more up a tree, I may need a ladder for some of them. I will post every few days on my caching experience in the East.

15,000 and counting

As I near my 15,000 cache find, I find my self in Campbell River visiting the Outlaws . I brought my Geohonda with me for caching. I needed 87 caches to reach my goal and have two days to find these caches. I headed out at 0530 hours with bike in tow and parked at Willis road at the start of the DBM, Duncan Bay Mainline logging road and headed out. It was so quite and peaceful and not a sole around.
About 0700 hours a beat up 4X4 came off a side road and asked me how to get to Courtenay. He had most of his windows smashed out and the body was a mess. He took my directions and off he went.
At the morning progressed, it got real hot and the dust was thick, even going to grab caches was dusty, the trees and bushes were covered in dust. By 1030 hours, I had managed to find 85 caches. I was running out of water so I headed back to the truck and watered up and finished up the other side of the DBM  and a few caches in town. It is now noon and very hot and I managed to grab 97 caches. So in the end, I reached my goal of finding my 15,000 cache find before heading to New Brunswick at the end of the month.

Always Caching

I have not done a post for some time but it is time do write a short post for the start of summer. Since my return from the Vegas trip, I have joined up with the Sunday Caching Group (SCG), we meet most Sundays that we can and do some pretty wild hikes to mountain tops and we have been also looking for a lot of the old Team caches on the Island. I have also been out on the off road Hondas with Cougar Kid every few weeks for some great days of caching mostly on the off roads between Courtenay & Campbell River off the DBM line. I have also been out a with JuRuu doing some hiking on the trails and some urban caching as well. I put together a group to hike the Wesley Ridge a few weeks ago behind Cameron Lake. There were 13 caches on this hike which started up to 600 meters then across the ridge and then down at 900 meters. Going down was the hardest as some of the areas we had to come down via ropes.It took us about 8.5 hours to complete. Some of the trails were not really trails but rather follow the pink ribbon through the woods. The views were so spectacular. It with a great hike with a great crew. It was a good idea that we parked a car at either end of the lake!
Not too much in the works for the rest of the summer but a few hikes in the fall are falling into place, like Mount Arrowsmith.
Princess! & I are heading to New Brunswick in less that a month and I will be caching there as well a little in Quebec which is just across the bridge form where I grew up, Campbellton, NB. It is certainly a different type of caching there as most caches have to be winter friendly, if that is possible. Princess! and I are having an event when we are in NB as there are not many events or cachers in the area. Looking forward to our trip there as it will be nice to see my parents and family.
My numbers are climbing and I am 112 caches away from 15,000.
